Office Hours:
Because this is an online course, I will be working with student primarily through email.  If you have any questions, send me an email and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

If you are on the Moscow campus, however, and would like an in-person conference, please request an appointment. My office hours for those on the Moscow campus are by appointment on MWF 12:30 - 2:30 p.m.

Course Requirements:
  1. Due Dates.
All papers must be turned in on the scheduled date. Papers turned in late will not receive full credit unless you submit one day (24 hours) in advance of the due date a short memo explaining the situation and stating when you plan to submit the paper. That memo, with the instructor's written endorsement, must be attached to the writing assignment when you submit it. The final assignment will not receive full credit if it is late.

  2. Submitting work
You will email all assignments and rough drafts to me. Send me the documents as a Word attachment (no zipped files). Make it easy for me to open your attachments. If I cannot open your attachments, I cannot grade your assignments.
Note: If your attachment has a virus on it, I will not open the file. You are responsible for sending virus-free documents. To ensure you do not have a virus in your computer, you need a robust, up-dateable virus checking program. You will receive zero credit for assignments that have a virus attached to them. Do not send viruses.

  3. Revision
Revision is an important part of producing good writing and an important part of this course. With rough drafts, I will serve as a coach (rather than a judge/grader). For this course, there are two types of rough drafts:
Assigned rough drafts: You will get credit for having rough drafts on the assigned dates. You may submit rough drafts to me by email as a Word attachment. Send or post rough drafts when they are due. You will receive credit for having the rough drafts on the assigned dates.
Other rough drafts: If you wish, you may send me rough drafts of assignments that do not require a rough draft, but if you do this, you must:
    1. send an attachment in Word, and
    2. ask one or two specific questions about the draft. I will respond as time permits. (Note: you need to do this a day or two before the final draft is due and consider that I don’t look at email in the evenings.)

  4. Format
When you send assignments, they must be double spaced (unless specified otherwise). Be sure to leave sufficient margins (1 inch) on each side of the page. Your name, 404-05 and date should appear in the upper left- or -hand corner of the first page.
Note: Before you send documents, you need to make sure that the format is correct. I will not read documents that are not formatted so I can read them easily.

  5. Class work—save it
Save all your class work along with the criteria/grade sheets so you can send it back to me at the end of the semester. This will help ensure that I have entered all your grades correctly, and it will enable me to evaluate the progress you made during the semester.

  6. Authorship and Citing Sources.
All papers must be written solely by the person submitting the paper, and sources must be cited correctly and thoroughly. Papers must be written during this semester. Papers should not have been previously submitted to or edited by other instructors or advisors.
Note: I will require you to fax or post sources so I can see how you are handling them.
If I cannot verify how you are handling sources for assignments where you need to cite sources, you will not receive a grade for that assignment.

  7. Incomplete grades.
The grade of incomplete will be given only following university guidelines.

  8. Attendance and Participation.
Class participation constitutes part of your grade. You will participate in this Web course by emailing me.

NOTE: If I don’t hear from you for a period of 2 weeks, I’ll assume that dropped the course, or you will earn an F for the course. Communication is the key here. If you will be away from your work, you need to tell me. Sorry, but I will not allow any exceptions to this.

  9. Emails
Before you send me emails, check spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Also check the resource on emails.

  10. A Note:
For this course to work for you, you will need to be self motivated to complete the work on time. This means you will have to read (and listen to) the course in a timely regular manner and complete the assignments on time.

I want to help you succeed in this course, so please contact me about any problems you are encountering with the course by email. Students on the Moscow campus should plan to visit me during office hours.

  11. Please contact me
Please send me an email so I know you have read this material and so I know what your email address is (use the email address that you will use for the course).
